What it says on the tin! At the end of five days you won’t believe how much you’ve learned to become an RYA Competent Crew. You don’t need any previous experience, although people often find it helpful to have looked at the RYA Competent Crew Handbook prior to joining.
However you approach it, your instructor will show you the ropes (quite literally) and get you sailing, manoeuvring, handling lines and rowing a dinghy. You will:

NEXT STEPS
Want to take your sailing further after your RYA Competent Crew course? Try to gain some further sailing experience. Rather like after you get your driving licence - get out there an enjoy sailing. You can join a sailing club, join friends on a flotilla holiday or sign up on yacht sailing and crew search apps too. Then the next step is to progress to the RYA Day Skipper practical and theory courses where you take charge of the boat.
To participate in RYA courses children must meet the minimum age requirements:
We welcome older children (16+) on any of our courses at any time of year, provided they are accompanied by at least one adult (18yrs+). Those under 16yrs will need to join you on a family course.
Family courses can be booked throughout the season (subject to yacht availability) Family courses must have a minimum of 2 people age 18+ on board.
Teenagers aged 13-17yrs can also take the RYA Competent Crew Course or RYA Day Skipper Certification Course (16+) during our Youth Sailing Academy weeks.
