Family sailing courses
Prometheus Sailing actively promotes and encourages families to develop their sailing skills together. We offer a wide range of courses designed for family groups.
Often we find that different members of a family are at different levels of sailing experience. From none or a little to plenty, or someone is very rusty perhaps from childhood days.
Joining a family course means we can tailor your learning and it's a fun activity to do together. Having an independent expert RYA Instructor working with you helps everyone gain. And it takes the pressure off having to be the 'teacher' and the 'parent'.
Sailing from our Port Solent base, children between the ages of 7 and 17 can join their parents on a:
- Family one day taster
- RYA Start Yachting
- RYA 5 day Competent Crew
- RYA Day Skipper course
To participate in RYA courses children must meet the minimum age requirements:
- Start Yachting Course - Minimum age 8+
- Competent Crew Certification Course - Minimum age 12+
- Day Skipper Certification Course - Minimum age 16+
We welcome older children (16+) on any of our courses at any time of year, provided they are accompanied by at least one adult (18yrs+). Children under 16 are welcome to join you on a private family course.
Family courses can be booked throughout the season (subject to yacht availability) Family courses must have a minimum of 2 people age 18+ on board.
We also offer the Prometheus Sailing and Sunsail UK Youth Sailing Academy weeks. These are as popular with parents as they are with the teenagers themselves and are scheduled to coincide with school holidays. Please see here for more about the Youth Sailing Academy.
