Cruising from our Port Solent base, a premier UK sailing location, aboard a modern yacht is the ultimate holiday adventure. Children between the ages of 7 and 17 can join their parents on any of the following family courses to develop some exciting skills.

Family One-Day Taster

Up to 6 People | From £899

Ideal for families who want to try sailing for the first time, the Family One-Day Taster is a brilliant introduction to life on the water. Take the helm, experience the thrill of sailing and discover whether cruising could become your family’s new favourite activity.

An experienced RYA instructor will guide you throughout the day, ensuring safety while allowing everyone to get involved and enjoy the experience. This is a fantastic first adventure for families with young children or those completely new to sailing.

RYA Start Yachting Course

Up to 5 People | From £1,600

The RYA Start Yachting course is a two-day introduction to sailing, ideal for beginners with little to no experience.

Staying on board for two nights, your family will learn fundamental sailing skills, including:

Rope work
Sail handling
Emergency awareness

A qualified RYA instructor provides expert guidance throughout the course while you enjoy life on board. The course includes:

Breakfast
Lunch
Soft drinks
Snacks
Wet weather gear
Safety equipment

RYA 5-Day Competent Crew Course

Up to 5 People | From £3,675

The RYA Competent Crew course is a five-day sailing programme that takes beginners from first steps to confident crew members.

Your family will learn essential sailing skills through hands-on experiences, including:

Helming the yacht
Trimming sails
Handling ropes

It's an adventure that also serves as a stepping stone towards the RYA Day Skipper qualification, making it a great long-term investment for the whole family.

Young sailors aged 12+ are welcome to join as part of a family group.

The course includes:

Five nights on board
Breakfast, lunch and snacks
Wet weather gear
RYA Competent Crew Certificate on completion

RYA Day Skipper Course

Up to 5 People | From £3,675

The RYA Day Skipper Practical is a five-day course designed to equip intermediate sailors with the skills to confidently skipper a cruising yacht by day in familiar waters.

You will learn the key skills, including:

Passage planning
Navigation
Meteorology essentials
Real-world boat handling

For those who have already completed the RYA Competent Crew training, this is the natural next step.

Young sailors aged 16+ are welcome to participate as part of a family group.

The course includes:

Five nights on board
Breakfast and lunch
Wet weather gear
An RYA Day Skipper Certificate upon completion

Minimum Age Requirements for RYA Family Courses

To participate in RYA courses, children must meet the minimum age requirements:

Start Yachting course - 8+
Competent Crew course - 12+
Day Skipper course - 16+

We welcome older children (16+) on any of our courses at any time of year, provided they are accompanied by at least one adult (18+).

Family courses can be booked throughout the year (subject to yacht availability). Family courses must have a minimum of 2 people aged 18+ on board.

Our Youth Sailing Academy

Looking for something specifically designed for teenagers? Our Youth Sailing Academy weeks are as popular with parents as they are with the young sailors themselves. For added convenience, they are scheduled to coincide with school holidays.
