Prometheus Sailing's Youth Sailing Academy weeks are as popular with parents as they are with the teenagers themselves. Scheduled to coincide with school holidays, Prometheus' Youth Sailing Academy weeks are a great mix of sailing instruction and other, fun activities designed to keep teenagers busy and entertained.
Youth Sailing Academy weeks are all-inclusive of food and soft drinks and are suitable for teenagers aged between 13 and 17. Non-sailing activities include on-shore games, cinema trips and barbecues. Over the course of the week, students can work towards an RYA qualification. We offer both the RYA Competent Crew and Day Skipper courses.
Are you currently working towards (or planning to start soon) achieving your Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Award and would like to make learning to sail part of your accomplishments? As a DofE Approved Activity Provider, we are able to offer the Residential section of a Gold DofE Award.
Whether or not you have ever sailed before, you will be actively involved in every aspect of sailing the boat. That means hoisting and lowering sails, steering, getting involved in navigation, anchoring and cooking. Those on RYA courses will complete the appropriate syllabus learning new skills. Each yacht on the Youth Academy will have an RYA qualified Instructor and a mate, both are DBS (CRB) checked and have experience working with children.
During the week there may be the opportunity to take part in shore side activities such as beach games, BBQs and cinema outings, depending on the ages and interests of the crew members. Anyone under the age of 15 will need consent from the parent or guardian to watch a 12A certificate film.
Accommodation is on board for the duration of the course and is mixed, with boys and girls in separate cabins. Prometheus endeavors to allocate boats by age range, where possible.
Peak Season (1st April – 30th November): £799
Courses start at 18:00 and will finish on the final day at 16:00.
