At Prometheus Sailing, we offer Youth Sailing Academy courses to help youth sailors develop essential sailing skills and confidence out at sea. Scheduled to coincide with school holidays, these all-inclusive programmes combine RYA sailing instruction with fun, safe adventures for teens.
Our teenage sailing school holiday programmes include food and soft drinks and are suitable for teenagers aged between 13 and 17. During the course, students work towards accredited RYA qualifications, including the RYA Day Skipper and the RYA Competent Crew courses.
Whether you have sailed before or not, you will be actively involved in every aspect of sailing the boat. This includes hoisting and lowering sails, steering, rigging, navigation, anchoring, cooking and team challenges.
Each yacht on the Youth Academy will have an RYA-qualified instructor and a first mate, both DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) checked and experienced in working with children.
Each student will follow the appropriate syllabus to gain theory knowledge that supports practical courses. Onboard accommodation is provided for the duration of the course, with boys and girls in separate cabins.
We aim to allocate boats by age range where possible. Participants under 15 will need parental consent to watch a 12A certificate film.
If you’re working towards your Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, you can make learning to sail part of your accomplishments. As a DofE Approved Activity Provider, we offer the Residential section of a Gold DofE Award. The Prometheus Sailing Youth Sailing Academy is one of the most rewarding sailing camps in the UK for young people.
During your training, you will:
Learn essential sailing theory and sailing techniques and the basic principles of crew management.
Participate in seamanship exercises, including navigation exercises and capsize recovery.
